Tidbit Thursday: Lasers

lasers

Did you know the word ‘Laser’ stands for ‘Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation’

Theodore Maiman developed the first working laser at Hughes Research Lab in 1960, and his paper describing the operation of the first laser was published in Nature three months later. Since then, more than 55,000 patents involving the laser have been granted in the United States. Today’s laser and all of its applications are the result of not one individual’s efforts, but the work of a number of prestigious scientists and engineers who were leaders in optics and photonics over the course of history.

#TidbitThursday – Did you know?

It is #TidbitThursday! Did you know?…

Did you Know?

Every day more money is printed for Monopoly than the US Treasury.

Although this Monopoly money theory was initially thought to be a rumor, it is actually true!

Parker Brothers, the creators of Monopoly, report that it prints around $30 billion each year. On the other hand, the U.S. government prints about $974 million annually, according to estimates published on CNBC’s website.

#TidbitThursday: Stand Tall

Stand Tall

It’s #TidbitThursday, did you know that we are taller in the morning than in the evening? This happens because the cartilage in our knees and other areas of our body slowly compress throughout the day with regular activities.

Do not panic! When you go to sleep and rest at night, the cartilage returns to its normal state. On average, we are about 1cm taller in the morning than in the evening.

What are your thoughts? Feel free to share your comments with us.

See you next week !

Tidbit Thursday: Email vs Regular Mail – What is sent/received more?

This #Tidbit Thursday we have an interesting fact that some of you may have been wondering about. What do people send/receive more, emails or traditional mail?

“Email outnumbers regular mail 10:1”

Email to Regular Mail Ratio

Email Outnumbers Regular Mail

With the invention of the World Wide Web in 1990, humanity has evolved into doing common things via the internet. Now more than ever, we have access to the information of the world at our fingertips. Our phones and computers are so advanced that they handle complex operations that they weren’t able to do a few years ago.

We are always looking for ways to communicate faster in order to keep up with the pace of the world. Students of previous generations learned how to compose and send traditional letters in school, now students are taught how to communicate via emails.

Just because emails have become more popular doesn’t mean you should steer completely away from traditional mail, there is a special feeling one gets when they receive a  letter with their name on it… Traditional mail still conveys significant importance.

What are your thoughts? Feel free to share your comments with us.

See you next week !
